Clouds from a clearing winter storm swirl over Mono Lake, a saline inland sea east of the Sierra Nevada crest in California. For the last several decades Mono Lake was severely threatened by Los Angeles Department of Water and Power diversions of inflowing streams into an aqueduct. Now, due to a court order that limits water diversion, the lake has slowly begun refilling.
